The short version
Hearken is built to be private by design. Text-to-speech runs entirely on your device, there are no accounts, and your books never leave your device. We collect a small amount of anonymous usage and crash data to keep the app working well — and nothing else.
What we collect
Hearken uses Google Firebase for two limited purposes:
- Anonymous usage analytics— basic, non-identifying events such as which screen you’re viewing and when a book is opened. These help us understand how the app is used. They never include the contents or titles of your books.
- Crash reports — when the app crashes, diagnostic information (such as the error and device type) is sent so we can fix the problem.
What we never collect
The contents of your library. Your books, the text you import, and your listening data stay on your device — Hearken has no account system and never uploads them anywhere.
Network usage
Aside from the anonymous analytics and crash reporting above, the only network request Hearken makes is to download the on-device voice model the first time you use narration. That download contains no personal information.
Third-party services
Analytics and crash reporting are provided by Google Firebase. Data handled by Firebase is subject to Google’s privacy and security policies.
